East Midlands South
Orthopaedic Research Day
The East Midlands South Orthopaedic Research Day (EMSORD) is a key event within the Regional Orthopaedic Training Programme, bringing together trainees, trainers, and invited experts to celebrate academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration in orthopaedic surgery.

The day features a programme of high-quality research presentations delivered by trainees, showcasing original work across the breadth of orthopaedics. These presentations provide an opportunity to share ideas, receive constructive feedback, and promote a strong culture of research and evidence-based practice within the region. The presentations are judged by an expert panel with the best presentation receiving a prize and also representing the region at the 'Best of the Best' Presentation at the annual British Orthopaedic Association Conference.

Distinguished guest speakers will deliver keynote lectures on contemporary topics, offering insight into cutting-edge research, clinical advancements, and career development. Their contributions enrich the educational experience and inspire trainees at all stages of training.

The event also recognises the outstanding contribution to training over the past year with the presentation of Trainer of the Year Awards for both Local and Regional Consultants. In addition the Joe Harper Prize is a trainee award voted for by the consultants to recognise and celebrate an outstanding trainee who has contributed significantly to the region over the past year. See below for previous winners of both categories.

The day concludes with a gala dinner, providing a relaxed and sociable setting for networking, reflection, and celebration. This final event strengthens professional relationships and highlights the collective achievements of the regional orthopaedic community.
